Configure Gelato legacy and V2 without mixing their contracts
Legacy Gelato creates from a saved Studio Template ID. Gelato V2 uses live-catalog Product UIDs to create Shopify product data. For a live publication, ArtDrop publishes to Online Store only after it verifies the exact Gelato connection for every intended variant. Missing evidence leaves the product unpublished and requires a manual connection handoff.

What this does
Legacy Gelato creates from a saved Studio Template ID. Gelato V2 uses live-catalog Product UIDs to create Shopify product data. For a live publication, ArtDrop publishes to Online Store only after it verifies the exact Gelato connection for every intended variant. Missing evidence leaves the product unpublished and requires a manual connection handoff.
Before you begin
- Use legacy Template IDs for existing Studio templates. Use Product UIDs for V2 catalog products; a Product UID is not a legacy field.
- V2 is Shopify-only. Physical Etsy uses an existing legacy Studio template and a typed Gelato Store ID whose Etsy channel ArtDrop does not verify.
What changes outside ArtDrop
Gelato V2 creates Shopify product data. A live publication reaches Shopify Online Store only after ArtDrop verifies the exact Gelato connection for every intended variant. Missing connection evidence keeps the product unpublished and requires a manual connection handoff in Shopify. Legacy Gelato creates a provider product and listing record whose storefront state must be checked.
Steps
-
Choose legacy or V2
Use a saved Studio Template ID for the legacy path. Use Add Gelato Product for V2 and choose Product UIDs, variants, and retail prices from its catalog.
-
Treat the V2 catalog as a first page
The V2 modal requests only the first 100 products with no pagination. A missing product is not proof that Gelato lacks it.
-
Run one controlled product
Inspect the exact Shopify product and every intended Gelato variant connection. A live publication proceeds only after ArtDrop verifies every exact connection.
-
Complete a manual handoff when needed
If connection evidence is missing, open the created Shopify product, connect every intended variant, confirm its prices, and finish publication in Shopify when you are ready.
Expected result
Verified Gelato connections allow a live publication to reach Online Store. Missing connection evidence keeps the product unpublished and presents a manual handoff in Shopify.
Good to know
- The V2 picker exposes at most the first 100 catalog products and has no pagination.
- Legacy Gelato sends at most 13 tags and truncates SEO title to 70 characters and SEO description to 320 characters.
- A typed additional-store Gelato ID is submitted as written. ArtDrop does not read a response field that proves which storefront channel that ID serves.
- A provider product or Shopify product record does not prove print quality, regional availability, or order readiness.
- With a configured Gelato API key, mapped Gelato product rows are requested from the live Gelato v3 price endpoint. Missing provider-category results remain absent because the old static-estimate fallback is still quarantined. The process cache is not keyed by account or route, and the table does not label each row's source, so verify every amount directly.
- For a live publication, ArtDrop publishes Gelato V2 product data to Shopify Online Store only after it verifies the exact connection for every intended variant. Missing evidence keeps the product unpublished and requires a manual connection handoff in Shopify.
Troubleshooting
- V2 product missing from the picker? The UI loaded only its first 100 results. Confirm the Product UID in Gelato.
- V2 product is not visible in Online Store? Check whether ArtDrop requested a manual connection handoff. Connect every intended variant in Shopify, then finish publication when ready.
- Legacy product exists but storefront visibility is unclear? Inspect the exact storefront. The legacy readback does not prove visibility.
How to undo or clean up
Disable the saved template to stop future use. Remove unwanted provider and Shopify or Etsy records separately. Disabling a template does not delete an external record.
